MORTPAK is a specialized demographic analysis package used to estimate and analyze mortality, fertility, and population structure, especially when data are limited or incomplete. It implements widely accepted direct and indirect methods, including construction of abridged and complete life tables, application of standard model life-table systems (such as Coale–Demeny and United Nations models), and relational/logit approaches. The software accepts data from vital registration, censuses, and surveys, and produces consistent indicators like life expectancy at birth (e0), age-specific death rates (nMx), probabilities of dying (nqx), survivorship (lx), and summary child and adult mortality measures. Outputs are suitable for reporting and often include options for smoothing, graduation, and internal consistency checks. MORTPAK is commonly used by national statistical offices, public health agencies, and academic researchers for training, quality assurance, and policy-relevant analysis, and has historically been available for Windows.
Key features:
- Life-table construction (abridged and complete) and conversion between mortality measures
- Model life tables and relational/logit models to address data gaps
- Indirect estimation of child and adult mortality from incomplete census or survey data
- Basic fertility and population structure tools, including stable-population relationships
- Data validation, smoothing, and export-ready tabulations
MORTPAK is developed by United Nations Population Division and is used by 2 users of Software Informer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 4.1 and 4.3. The name of the program executable file is MORTPAK4.exe.
